More about Black Star Speaker Cables
A SPEAKER CABLE HAS TWO OBJECTIVES TO MEET:
1 Provide a link to give the amplifier immediate control of speaker voltages.
2 Not leave any vestige of artefact of its own in the character of the sound.
The output of an power amplifier is a very reactive stage;-if the voltage on the binding post terminals is not what it should, then an amplifier will very quickly with its energy reservoir to impress the correct voltage on the biding posts. This is especially so with a high-damping factor (high Q) amplifier.
The assumption is that the voltages and currents at the speaker binding posts are identical to those at the amplifier binding post, so that the speaker motions are in direct control of the amplifier. What could possibly go wrong???
Cables transfer energy by setting up a field around the conductors. This takes time, and is slowed by factors such as dielectric, resistance and wire construction
If cables and dielectrics have any tendency to store energy then introduces and elasticity into the link between the amplifier output biding posts and the speaker element. Think of it as the difference between steering a car through a chicane with a firm steering wheel and firm suspension, or soft suspension and an elastic steering wheel…(don’t try that!).
Of course firm and immediate control means that what ever happens at the amplifier binding posts is happening at the speaker post, meaning the amplifier is commanding the speaker motion directly. But, also, any resonance or stray movement in the speaker drivers causes a back-voltage, With tight control the back voltage is firmly and immediately countered by the amplifier and its high damping factor control. This means that unwanted speaker motion will also be control tightly using great speaker cable.
The last thing that need to be designed out of a cable is its own resonance. By the nature of something being firm, it can have a high resonance- energy that gets trapped and gets released in vibrational energy. Standing at the centre of a suspension bridge, despite the mass you can feel a lot of resonance vibrating in the structure as traffic passes. This occurs in electrical cables as electro-mechanical vibration, and cable has to be deigned to minimise this.
The Black Star cable range has been developed to work an audio system to its best. Speaker cable needs to provide close and tight connections, with least time delay and minimal self resonance. Black Star speaker cable excel at his, and is probably the most perfect speaker cable. This results in your speaker simply sounding as true as you will get when connected with Black Star speaker cable.
To achieve this level of understanding and certainty in out product performance we investigated in home set-ups, live theatre and recording studio to know how power and signal cables interact with equipment and how a cable set up can dramatically alter how realistic a system reproduces sound (click for more about this)
